RESUMO

As one of the unique owl-wing morphologies, trailing-edge (TE) fringes are believed to play a critical role in the silent flight of owls and have been widely investigated using idealized single/tandem airfoils. However, the effect of TE fringes and associated mechanisms on the aeroacoustics of owl wings, which feature curved leading edges, wavy TEs, and several feather slots at the wingtips, have not yet been addressed. In this study, we constructed two 3D owl wing models, one with and one without TE fringes, based on the geometric characteristics of a real owl wing. Large-eddy simulations and the Ffowcs Williams‒Hawkings analogy were combined to resolve the aeroacoustic characteristics of the wing models. Comparisons of the computed aerodynamic forces and far-field acoustic pressure levels demonstrate that the fringes on owl wings can robustly suppress aerodynamic noise while sustaining aerodynamic performance comparable to that of a clean wing. By visualizing the near-field flow dynamics in terms of flow and vortex structures as well as flow fluctuations, the mechanisms of TE fringes in owl wing models are revealed. First, the TE fringes on owl wings are reconfirmed to robustly suppress flow fluctuations near the TE by breaking up large TE vortices. Second, the fringes are observed to effectively suppress the shedding of wingtip vortices by mitigating the flow interaction between feathers (feather-slot interaction). These complementary mechanisms synergize to enhance the robustness and effectiveness of the TE fringe effects in owl wing models, in terms of aerodynamic force production and noise suppression. This study thus deepens our understanding of the role of TE fringes in real owl flight gliding and points to the validity and feasibility of employing owl-inspired TE fringes in practical applications of low-noise fluid machinery.

RESUMO

A cascade strategy to synthesise gem-difluorinated 2H-furans from reactions of BrCF2CO2Et with enaminones has been described. The reactions tolerate a wide variety of functional groups under metal-free conditions. An active aminocyclopropane is proposed to be a key intermediate through the cyclopropanation of difluorocarbene with enaminones, which further triggers a regioselective C-C bond cleavage in situ to afford the corresponding gem-difluorinated 2H-furans.

RESUMO

Parasitoid wasps of the smallest flying insects with bristled wings exhibit sophisticated flight behaviors while challenging biomechanical limitations in miniaturization and low-speed flow regimes. Here, we investigate the morphology, material composition, and mechanical properties of the bristles of the parasitoid wasps Anagrus Haliday. The bristles are extremely stiff and exhibit a high-aspect-ratio conical tubular structure with a large Young's modulus. This leads to a marginal deflection and uniform structural stress distribution in the bristles while they experience high-frequency flapping-induced aerodynamic loading, indicating that the bristles are robust to fatigue. The flapping aerodynamics of the bristled wings reveal that the wing surfaces act as porous flat paddles to reduce the overall inertial load while utilizing a passive shear-based aerodynamic drag-enhancing mechanism to generate the requisite aerodynamic forces. The bristled wing may have evolved as a novel design that achieves multiple functions and provides innovative ideas for developing bioinspired engineering microdevices.

RESUMO

In this contribution, dopamine-protected copper nanoclusters as a novel fluorescent nanosensor was employed to detect nitrofurantoin (NFT) for the first time, which were prepared by using dopamine as the stabilizing agent and sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and hydrazine hydrate (N2H4·H2O) as the reducing agents. A series of methods were used to analyze the structure and optical properties of as-prepared Cu NCs, such as UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It possessed high dispersion, excellent water solubility, good photostability and strong green fluorescence under UV lamp (365 nm). Significantly, the FL intensities of Cu NCs were quenched with addition of NFT. The analytical method possessed good linear relationship between the relative fluorescence intensity (F0/F) and the NFT concentrations (range from 5 to 120 µM), and the limit of detection (LOD) could reach 0.73 µM. The fluorescence detection mechanisms were attributed to the static quenching and inner filter effect (IFE). In addition, this proposed fluorescence sensor has been successfully used for the detection of NFT in bovine serum samples.

RESUMO

An efficient RhII -catalyzed synthesis of functionalized α-vinyl aldehydes with high E/Z stereoselectivity was developed. The reaction mediates the cyclopropanation of enaminones with vinyl carbenoids that are generated from cyclopropenes in situ to give the aminocyclopropane intermediates. Selective C-C bond cleavage of the cyclopropane intermediates leads to formation of α-vinyl aldehyde derivatives with high E/Z selectivity. This method proceeds at room temperature under very mild reaction conditions and works with a broad substrate scope.

RESUMO

An expedient [5 + 1] annulation method via Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization of enaminones to synthesize polyaromatic rings is described. The reaction tolerates a broad range of functional groups and offers a new entry to construct polycyclic aromatic compounds with amino and formyl substituents. A possible reaction mechanism was proposed based on the results obtained from isotope labeling experiments.
